Ammonium muriaticum acts especially on the liver, digestive system, glands, and mucous membranes. Its keynote is a state of sluggishness, glandular enlargements, constipation, and mucous discharges. It is particularly useful in chronic liver affections, hemorrhoids, and constipation with hard, crumbly stools that stick to the rectum.

Another marked sphere is catarrhal conditions of the respiratory tract, with thick, tough mucus that is difficult to expel. It also has a strong action on the female reproductive system, where menses are profuse, dark, clotted, and acrid, often accompanied by weakness and backache.
