Allium cepa is one of the most important remedies for acute coryza (common cold), hay fever, and eye irritation. Its keynote is profuse, watery, acrid nasal discharge that excoriates the skin, accompanied by bland, watery eye discharge. Patients often complain of sneezing, tickling in the larynx, and a raw throat, worse in a warm room and better in open air.

It is also helpful in neuralgic pains following amputations (phantom limb pain) and in laryngitis with hoarseness and cough.
